Caño Island is an amazing Biological Reserve in Costa Rica. Situated in the beautiful Pacific Ocean, about 20 km from the coast of Península Osa. This place is also considered the best snorkeling and diving area of the country, especially because of the visibility of about 20 meters deep (65 feet).
In the crystal clear waters lives a great variety of different species such as: turtles, whales and reef sharks. Also, a quiet path on the island will lead you on a beautiful walk exploring the island. Caño Island is also known for being an ancient indigenous cemetery.
We depart early in the morning between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. The meeting point and departure point is the Marino Ballena Park in Uvita. From Dominical it takes about 25 minutes to get there by car. (Transport is not included)
Then you will take a comfortable boat ride to Caño Island. We will enter the Pacific Ocean, passing very close to places with a fascinating view such as: Isla Ballena, Las tres hermanas, Isla Violines, Bahía Drake y La Reserva de Marenco. During the boat tour we will have the opportunity to watch some birds (pelicans, frigates of the South, gulls etc…) also depending of the season we hope to have the opportunity to observe whales: Humpbacks, the killer, Pilot whales and of course turtles and dolphins.
Once on the island, the guide will explain the itinerary and give some instructions for an even more enjoyable and safe snorkeling experience, this session will last one hour. After this a delicious picnic lunch will be served.
We offer several options for the second part of the trip:
